Automatic geotagging is coming with the N78 and N96, and you preview the experience on your N95, N82 or N73 with the beta app Location Tagger.

Location Tagger, from Nokia Beta Labs, tags your images with geolocation info. It appears to contain some of the precursor experimental work that will be fully integrated into the N78 and N96 camera application.

How does it work?

As you take a picture, your GPS coordinates are saved to the EXIF header of the JPEG file. You can use this data later to track your movement, place your pictures on a map, etc.

How do I use it?

First, you’ll need to start Location Tagger from the Application folder. Then Location Tagger will show your current GPS coordinates. To geotag your pictures, simply use the camera and take pictures as usual. While using Location Tagger, you’ll notice a small icon at the top corner of the viewfinder.

How do I upload my tagged pictures to a sharing site?

If you’re interested in uploading your images, make sure you have Share Online 3.0 installed. You can learn more in Naveen’s Workshop article about Share Online and Flickr. Here are a few examples of images that were tagged and uploaded with Location Tagger. Click on the “Map” link to see their location.
