Get ready for the 5th Mobile Music Workshop, coming May 13-15 to Vienna, Austria.
This installment of the annual international festival will bring together artists, programmers, musicians and everyone in between to explore the potential of mobile music. The attendees will share ideas about combining locative media, ubiquitous computing and music access in an urban atmosphere.
As the festival site puts it, “The emerging field of Mobile Music sits at the intersection of ubiquitous computing, portable audio technology and New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME). It goes beyond today’s personal music players to include creative practices of mobile music making, sharing and mixing. The mobile setting challenges existing notions of interfaces and interaction, stretching music to new creative limits.”
If you have something to submit, you’re in luck: the Mobile Music Workshop has extended their participation submission deadline to February 17th. They are looking for papers, posters, demos, installations and performances. Check out last year’s blog, Flickr photos, and the proceedings to get an idea of what they’re looking for and what to expect at this year’s festival.
